Our Pastor

Our Pastor is Art Matheny.  Raised in a small farm town in Iowa, Art first became a follower of Jesus when he was just nine years old. He has been pastoring at churches in the United States and Canada for over 20 years. He loves teaching and preaching the Word of God and enjoys listening to people's spiritual journey. Art lives in Sonoma, with his wife of 21 years Jenny, and their two children, Emma and Sam.  Art also enjoys playing games, coaching youth sports, exercising, garage sales, and 7-11 slurpees.  Art received his B.A. degree in Biblical Literature from Ozark Christian College, and a Master of Divinity-Spiritual Theology degree from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He is currently finishing up a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Direction from Fuller Theological Seminary.  

Our Leadership

SVCC Leadership - Consistory

The Leadership Team of Sonoma Valley Community Church is called the Consistory.  It is composed of Elders and Deacons who are nominated and approved by Church members. The lead pastor is also a part of the consistory.  Elders and Deacons serve a 4 year term.  The Consistory discusses and discerns God's movements and directions concerning church matters and meets monthly.  The recorded minutes of each meeting are posted on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall.  Current Consistory members are:  Susie Perry (Vice President of the Consistory and Elder), Margaret Leinster (Elder), Margaret Hage (Elder), Don Van Staaveren (Elder), Margaret Duffy (Head Deacon), Bob Coleman (Deacon),  Greg Berruto (Deacon) and Art Matheny (Pastor).
